Why they actually break

Because the heat doesn’t spread evenly, and the rapid heating and cooling cycles of PET blowing just beat the filament into submission. We decided to fix that by beefing up the quartz glass and rethinking how the electrodes sit. It makes the tube tougher. It can take the vibration of the machine without cracking. We also obsessed over the fit between the lamp and the reflector. If there’s even a tiny gap, you get hot spots. And hot spots? They kill lamps. Simple as that.
No modifications, no headache

A couple of things to keep in mind
There is a small trade-off. To make the glass stronger, we had to make the walls a bit thicker. Because of that, the infrared transmission changes just a tiny bit. You might find you need to nudge your oven temperature up or down by 2-5 degrees to get your preforms exactly where they need to be. One last tip:be careful with the alignment. If you install these crooked, you’re putting mechanical tension on the glass. That tension will cancel out all the structural work we put into the tube.
