
Stop Renting Lifts: Making IR Heaters That Actually Last
If you’ve ever had to deal with high ceilings, you know the nightmare. You mount your infrared heaters 6 to 10 meters up, everything is great for a while, and then—pop. One element burns out. Now you’re not just replacing a bulb. You’re hunting for a scissor lift, blocking off a section of the warehouse, and wasting half a day on a “quick fix.” It’s a massive pain. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we looked at why these units actually die. Usually, it comes down to two things: moisture and splashes.
The hidden danger of “fog”
Here’s the thing about industrial spaces: temperature swings are brutal. When the air shifts, moisture condenses on the heater casing. You might just see it as a bit of fog, but inside the unit, it’s a disaster. Those tiny water droplets migrate toward the electrical terminals. Once they hit the high-voltage connections, you get arcing. The element fries. Just like that. To stop this, we basically sealed the whole thing up. We used heavy-duty gaskets and moisture-blocking seals at every entry point. It keeps the internals bone-dry, which means no more short circuits just because the warehouse got a bit humid.
Dealing with the “splash zone”
Then there’s the other problem: water. Whether it’s a cleaning crew with a hose or a leaky overhead pipe, things get wet. If a spray of cold water hits a hot quartz tube, the thermal shock cracks the glass instantly. Game over. We fixed this by adding a protective shield and angling the drip-edges. Now, water just slides right off and away from the wiring and the element. It keeps the heat flowing even when the environment is messy.
The honest trade-off
Now, I’ll be real with you. Adding all this shielding changes things slightly. Because the element isn’t totally “naked,” the heat distribution pattern shifts a little bit. You might need to tweak your mounting height by a few centimeters to get the floor temperature exactly where you want it. But honestly? That’s a tiny price to pay. I’d rather spend five minutes adjusting a bracket during installation than spend every six months renting a lift to swap out dead lamps.
